From 8 June 2026, when you access ESS from a personal device you will no longer be able to use your memorable word to log in to ESS.
To avoid any disruption to your access, you’ll need to set up an alternative verification method if you haven’t already.
- Your work email
- A personal email
- Or an authentication app (like Microsoft Authenticator)
If you choose an authentication app, you’ll simply download it to your mobile, scan a QR code, and enter the one time passcode (OTP) it generates directly into the ESS log in/registration screen. Quick, easy, and extra secure!
For guidance on registering MFA and logging into ESS please visit the below webpages:

Register for ESS Lite: https://extra.hants.gov.uk/sharedservices/register
ESS Multi Factor Authentication: https://extra.hants.gov.uk/employee/multi-factor-authentication
Don’t wait
Make sure your alternative verification method is set up before 8 June 2026 to ensure uninterrupted access.
