Accessing Hampshire’s Registration Service during lockdown

In line with national COVID-19 restrictions, the County Council’s Register Offices are continuing to provide certain core services throughout lockdown, either over the phone or by pre-booked appointment

Hampshire County Council’s Executive Member for Recreation and Heritage, Councillor Seán Woodward, said: “Several of our registration services have been disrupted this year due to the coronavirus pandemic – some more significantly and for longer periods of time than others. Our teams have worked tirelessly to try and lessen the impact on customers, and I thank our Hampshire community for their patience and understanding throughout these unprecedented challenges.

“In line with the current national lockdown restrictions, we are continuing to register births by pre-booked appointment as normal. It’s important to remember that parents do not currently need a birth certificate to register their baby with a GP practice or to claim for Child Benefit and Universal Credit, so while it is a legal requirement to register your baby’s birth there is no urgency to do so unless individual circumstances require otherwise.

“Citizenship ceremonies are continuing and death registrations are still being delivered by telephone.

“Weddings and civil partnership ceremonies have been suspended during the national lockdown, but people who are intending to get married or form a civil partnership can still pre-book an appointment to give notice.”

Appointments can be booked in any one of the 11 Hampshire register offices based in Basingstoke, Aldershot, Winchester, Eastleigh, Andover, Alton, Fareham, Romsey, Ringwood, Lymington and Petersfield. An online booking system makes it easy to search for available appointments either by date or office location, or customers can phone 0300 555 1392.

Visitors are asked to not travel to a register office without a pre-booked appointment and to follow the latest social distancing guidance during their visit including wearing a face covering, unless they are exempt. Customers who have an upcoming pre-booked appointment are asked to reschedule if they or a member of their household are currently experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms.
